The Traffic Safety Unit is committed to maintaining the safe, efficient flow of traffic in Medford Township. The unit accomplishes this through education, enforcement and through a pro-active role in project engineering. Currently there are 4 Traffic Safety Officers assigned to the Field Operations Bureau, one on each squad, ready to respond to various community, traffic-related needs with the use of our motorcycle, marked and unmarked police units, speed monitoring trailers and variable message boards. Officers employ radar and laser technology to address neighborhood speeding complaints and to comprehensively investigate crashes. The officers aggressively participate in both State and National safety campaigns such as Aggressive Driver, Click it or Ticket, Buckle Up South Jersey, Pedestrian Safety Decoy Operation and Over the Limit Under Arrest. In addition, we have developed and implemented our HAPPY Program, targeting bike helmet safety and our Pedestrian Safety Program. Due in large part to the work of our Traffic Safety unit, for the first time in over a decade, Medford Township is experiencing a double digit decrease (14%) in the number of crashes which occur on our roadways.
